From Sactown Makers to Urban Technology Lab

Sactown Makers started with a simple idea: a community where anyone could learn real skills, share what they know, and make things that matter. The door was open to everyone. Coders, welders, woodworkers, artists, engineers, hobby tinkerers, and complete beginners showed up for hands-on training, workshops, and small groups, all with the same goal of making something real.

It grew faster than we expected, and not because of any one workshop or tool. People came for each other. They wanted somewhere to ask questions, get unstuck, and try ideas without being judged. Along the way, many of them found the clarity and confidence to take their projects further.

That’s where Urban Technology Lab comes in. Urban Technology Lab builds on everything Sactown Makers taught us and focuses on the next step: turning an idea into a first working version you can put in front of real people. We help you narrow your concept, build a simple prototype, and test it quickly, so you learn what works before you spend months or money on what doesn’t.

Sactown Makers is still the community at our core. Urban Technology Lab is where that community goes to launch. For now, we meet at partner spaces around Sacramento. Our next goal is a permanent home of our own, where members can drop in, use the equipment, and build anytime.
